You know that exercise is a critical part of maintaining health of the human body. But do you have fun with it? Are you doing activities that increase your human connection? One of the reasons I’ve marveled an ethical Japanese martial art, Aikido, is the human connection experienced when practicing. It’s truly a hands-on experience. It’s balancing you and your opponent’s energies and protecting each other so no one gets hurt. And talk about a calorie ROASTER! Sweat pores out of your body while on the mat!
How about walking through the park and getting to know people in your community? I walk in various neighborhoods and get to know people. I make sure to say “hello” to everyone that passes by. Every time I end an hour of community walking, my legs are buzzing with lactic acid, my back needs to be slicked from all the sweat and I feel refreshed! Walking also is a great opportunity to practice some walking meditation.
Dancing is an amazing way to get your blood pumping. Tap dancing can help you connect with your inner percussion artist. If you love to make noise, it’s such a grounding art to make the world know you are there! Utilize dancing as a way to connect with your sensual side such as burlesque dancing for women, tango or ballroom dancing for singles looking to couple up or for couples to add a little fire to your everyday life.
What are the ways you are making exercise fun? What do you do to keep yourself coming back to it time and time again? If you’re going through the motions of exercising, start including some activities that have other benefits such as social, emotional and spiritual connectivity. You will find that it keeps you rooted in coming back to the “work” of moving your body.
